February half term proves a busy week for Freedom Road Creative Arts

February half term is turning into a busy and creative week for the FRCA charity. Dance workshops with Jon Beney are running from Monday to Wednesday; the Kids in Care Kouncil, KICK, are taking part in recruitment and selection training on Thursday; and on Friday our GCSE Drama group put the final touches to GIZMO in preparation to Saturday’s performance.

Funded by the Youth Opportunities Fund the dance workshops are focusing on encouraging the young people to try a different style of dance to what they have done before. Thursday’s recruitment and selection training is aimed at giving those involved the necessary skills to be able to take part in interviewing adults for jobs in the social care arena, and on Friday final rehearsals are taking place as out GCSE group, after almost 9 months of planning and rehearsals, put on their version of Alan Ayckbourne’s “GIZMO” on Saturday 20th February from 7pm at Northern Theatre.

It’s also been really encouraging to see some new faces becoming involved in the work of the charity and we hope that their participation will extend into the weekly workshops when they resume after the half term period.
