X Factor Event is a first for FRCA at Kardomah94

The evening of Wednesday 28th January 2015 was the first event FRCA had staged at the brilliant Kardomah 94 since moving it's base there in November 2014. With the increasing support of Mal Scott and his team at Kardomah, FRCA have been made to feel very welcome and part of the venue, and tonight was a result of the hard work the young people had put in during rehearsals that take place on a Saturday morning.

The idea was that four mentors; Lisa, Stephen, Jonny and Liam would work with a group of young people to produce a series of group, solo and duet performances for the evening and these would be judged by our judging panel; Jan Brumby, Ian Brodie and Garry Pearson. What the panel were looking for was a group performance that stood out and a solo performance and a due performance that did the same.

The first act of the evening saw Lisa and Jonny's group combine to perform Katy Perry's, Dark Horse. The group of Emily, Emmie, Tyler, Nathan, Emily and Ollie produced a cracking rendition to set the tone for what was to follow.

The original idea for this event was to have it ready or Christmas, but due to other commitments it was difficult to achieve. With that in mind Stephen's group of Elizabeth, Lucy, Ashley, Rob and Matthew had worked on something a little different and performed "I Wanna Be Like You", made famous of course in the film the Jungle Book.

Emmie Craft followed, with what could only be described as a near flawless version of Titanium, accompanied by Iain on keyboard, and then Ashley and Lucy performed their version of You Found Me. Two solo performances followed first by Imogen and then Emily. The dedication of both these artists, in developing their talents and growing into their own styles, is very evident as their polished and performances had a packed audience showing their appreciation with rapturous applause.

Liam's group followed; Danielle, Nichola, Leila, Mel, Nathan and Rowan with their version of Chasing Cars, and despite only coming together as a group 2 weeks ago, again they produced a cracking performance which would eventually turn out to be the winning group song.

Both Emmie + Emily, Lucy + Ashley and Imogen performed again after the break, before another outstanding solo performance from Elizabeth performing her own song, gave the night even more depth to the talent on show.

The final song of the evening was from Emily Sutherland supported by Emmie, Emily and Charlie. Singing One Directions "Steal My Girl", Emily produced an incredible performance and the backing from the "Em's" (nearly as good as the Ia(i)n's) and Charlie gave everyone the perfect end to the evening.

While the judges made their decisions we were treat to a performance from local Hullies "Coaves" and entertained by our compere for the evening Jack Thompson.

Although the winners on the evening; Liam's Group, duo Lucy and Ashley and sole performer Elizabeth were well deserved , all the young people should be very proud of their achievements. It was an event that had minimal adult musician support (Iain and Jonny for Emmie's solo's) and demonstrated the growing togetherness and peer support that is quickly developing amongst this small community of young musicians.

I must final add again our thanks for the support and encouragement from Mal Scott and his team; thanks to our judges on the evening Ian, Jan and Garry and finally to thank Kardomah Donor Helena for sponsoring the event!!
