July 17th 2012 will live long in the memories of 40 young people who took part in the first Rock Challenge Youth Division staged at Hull's New Theatre, as they were crowned worthy winners with "Zombie Explosion" in front of around 1200 people who packed into the Theatre.

Performing to a soundtrack made up of 80's music and choreographed by James and Anne Marie Crook, the young people gave an incredible performance that had the audience enthralled and on their feet. Also winning awards for Make Up Design, Best Soundtrack, Best Lighting Design, Best Costume Design and winning the Spirit of Rock Challenge Award the night was a very memorable and proud moment for everyone involved.

The whole idea behind the theme of the performance came from the young people who then rehearsed tirelessly with James and Anne Marie to perfect the routine and make it the performance of the night. Choosing 80's music and Zombies as a theme, the routine developed each week until the final rehearsal enabled all the pieces to slot into place.

It is hoped that the young people will cherish and build on this experience for a long time to come, in still confidence and self belief in all that took part and have a positive impact in areas of their lives in which they, at times struggle. Freedom Road Creative Arts works in partnership with organisations such as Rock Challenge,Humberside Police and Vivergo Fuels to provide the young people who access the work of the charity with these kinds of opportunities and would like to thank all those who made this possible.

Other thanks must also go to Lisa (best costumes and make up), Iain (best soundtrack and lighting), Rachel, Jonny, Jodie, Garry, Chrystal, everyone at RAPP and of course the fantastic young people who make up the Freedom Road Creative Arts team:
Jade, Amber, Mellissa, Kirsty, Aaron, Ellie, Leonnie, Daniel, Billy Jo, Emmanuel, Jack, James, Caprice, Jermaine, Luke, Celine, Rosie, Leon, Liam, Jess, Gracia, Courtney, Liam, Bobby, Zaynah, Elle, Dell, Toni, Katie, Courteney, Molly, Emily, Olivia, Emily, Emmy, Sammie, Tyler, Juliet and Dione.
